Welcome to Mic Drop Moments… a weekly podcast hosted by Sandra Garlick MBE, Business Growth & Visibility Strategist, Speaker Mentor, and Founder of Woman Who.

Today's Mic Drop Moments Guest is Julie Bale
- Voice teacher, hypnotherapist, and lifelong singer
- Over 35 years of experience teaching singing
- Author of a successful book on hypnotherapy for weight loss
Julie has a lifelong passion for singing and has been singing since before she could speak and has always taught others to find their voice. Her early experiences—ranging from childhood karaoke to memorable school choir moments—sparked her enduring love for music.
Julie discovered hypnotherapy as a tool to overcome stage nerves and help singers unlock their full potential. This approach not only boosted performance confidence but also led her to develop a hypnotherapy program that successfully addressed weight struggles.
A series of events, including a moving funeral and an emotional conversation with a former student, inspired Julie to refocus on the transformative power of singing. She recognised that many people are silenced by past criticisms and missed opportunities to embrace their natural talent.
Julie emphasises that singing is a skill anyone can develop with practice, regardless of early discouragement or perceived limitations. She highlights common experiences where negative comments from authority figures (e.g., teachers, parents) hinder potential, and she challenges these narratives.
There’s a strong synergy between singing and speaking—both require confidence and the ability to express one's true self. Julie draws parallels between performing opera and public speaking, advocating for embracing one’s unique voice.

Wow… 150 episodes and thousands of downloads! A major milestone and thank you for listening.
I had no idea when I started my Podcast journey on 1st July 2021 that those initial and sometimes sporadic 10 minute episodes would evolve into years of weekly content.
So here we are with a refreshed and rebranded look and feel, to celebrate Episode 150, with so many exciting episodes to come. I have to hold myself back as I could easily bring you two episodes a week!
In this episode I share why the Podcast name has changed from Woman Who Chat to Mic Drop Moments, what Mic Drop® is all about and what’s next. I also share more information about the Mic Drop® Book, which I’m working on now, the Mic Drop Studio Membership and Mic Drop® Live which takes place on 2nd July in Oxford.

Today I'm chatting to the Award Winning Rachel Peebles of Estrellas Brillantes.
Rachel teaches Spanish to over 250 people a week from babies to adults, her eldest student is 90. Babies can hear the sounds through passive learning and Rachel teaches through songs and play, making it interactive and fun.
Rachel's journey started when she was 18 and visited Bolivia to volunteer for a month. She couldn't even speak Spanish. She took a year out and went back, and when she graduated lived there for 7 years.
Rachel still visits the Charity in Bolivia and now takes her little boy who picks up the language so easily because he also speaks it at home and is now bilingual.
I also share some of my own language learning experiences and lack of confidence speaking languages.
Rachel entered and won a Solopreneur Award in October 2024. Despite living in Glasgow, she travelled to the Midlands to take part in the Solopreneur Awards Lunch, winning an Award.

It's clear you go above and beyond for each of them. Today I'm chatting to Carolyn Parker, Author.
We chat about Carolyn's journey into writing, her surprise Special Award win at the Woman Who Solopreneur Awards 2023, and receiving a standing ovation after sharing her story on stage at the Woman Who Solopreneur Awards 2024.
Carolyn talks about how she started her writing journey by sharing her own very personal story. She wrote about her firsts and sadly, her naivety, the challenges she faced and how she came through this period in her life with the aim to help others realise that they're not alone and can move forward . This kickstarted Carolyn's journey into writing.
We also chat about how Carolyn started her speaking journey and her standing ovation.
Carolyn is a huge advocate for other women, championing their success and giving encouragement, hence her Special Award win.

Today I'm chatting with Woman Who Solopreneur Award Winner, Mandy Rees of Mother for Life.
Mandy supports women by bringing them together with other women through circles for women who are preparing for and starting their motherhood journey.
Mandy, a former lawyer with a top law firm, struggled with post-natal depression and shares her story about how she tried to work full time but ended up working a crazy existence trying to carry out a full time role in 3 days.
She knew she needed to do something and that was to support working mum's going into motherhood. Whilst things have got a lot better, there is still work to be done.
Having worked as a mother in the legal profession I totally resonated with Mandy and the work she is doing to create more female role models.
Mandy was a Winner of the Woman Who Solopreneur Awards 2024. Mandy shares why she entered the Awards and how she used her experience to celebrate herself, as she often asks other women to do.

From struggling with post-natal depression and lacking a female support network to building a thriving and empowering community for women, the judges were blown away by Mandy’s determination, vision, and love for what she does and the lives she is changing. They think Mandy should take this award as the catalyst to believe in herself as much as she believes in her mission.

I always look at my metrics, my financials and just about everything else as I take you through each month of 2024. Plus, I share what I learned from Stacey Solomon.
I share some of my own decisions, experiences including the highs and lows of 2024 and knowing I was absolutely on the right path.
You'll have to excuse my voice on this one as I'd been nursing a 4 week old virus (cough, sore throat, cold etc) at the time of recording.

Today I'm chatting to Woman Who Solopreneur Award Winner, Cate Caruth, Content Alchemist of Creative Words.
Put simply, Cate and her team write, but it's so much more than that.
Cate shares her journey from wanting to be a cuckoo clock (aged 3) and how although she wanted to be a writer as a teenager, she shelved her hobby believing it wasn't a 'proper job' and subsequently went into management consulting which ultimately led her into content writing and the important element of actually getting that 'content gold' out there as a done for you service... content alchemy.
We chat about Cate's love of networking, her passions, her thoughts on AI for content writers, and her recent Award wins.
One of Cate's business goals for 2024 was to be an 'award winning' business and she recognised the marketing opportunities that could create. Plus, she saw the value of having her business evaluated by independent peers. She found the Woman Who Awards, entered and won. Cate shares some great insights and tips from her award entry too.
